The compact Fireface UC has been optimized for highest performance under Windows and Mac OS. Based on a newly developed RME Hammerfall core the Fireface UC provides revolutionary low latency even on multi Shopsystems. It uses two different firmware versions with different transfer methods to remove the limitations of current USB Audio Interfaces. The Mac and Windows operation mode can be selected directly on the device at any time. In Mac OS, the MIDI ports of the Fireface are "class compliant", the operating system therefore automatically uses the included MIDI drivers.
Thanks to TotalMix, the 18 inputs and outputs can beings mixed, distributed and routed freely on the 18 physical outputs available. Up to 9 independent stereo sub-mixes offer unrivaled monitoring capabilities. The amazing matrix window to copy / paste, link, or group the different channels is only one of many functions of the mixer. Each of the mixer outputs can be re-registered without the need for external wiring. Finally TotalMix can be completely MIDI controlled by any compatible controller Mackie Control, even in standalone mode. The integrated DSP calculates RMS and peak level of the audio channels without causing CPU overload. All settings including TotalMix are recalled during boot from flash memory. These settings are saved on the device for a reminder during stand-alone use as a converter, adder, headphone amp, preamp etc.

The latencies * are simply sensational accessible. The smallest buffer in Windows is 48 samples and 14 Mac OS. Through this interface the USB 2.0 provides performance comparable to a PCI Express interface

Features
This new interface not only makes the Fireface RME technologies accessible to all Mac and PC, it also offers performance and compatibility associated with ultra low latency making it the pro audio recording solution the test of time.
The Fireface UC includes all analog and digital circuits that have made the reputation of RME. This is the only interface in its class to offer active jitter suppression, stand-alone functions, total control from the front panel inputs / outputs and a professional mixing matrix 648 channels all at rates up to 192 kHz.

Integrated DSP mixer.
All inputs and outputs can be freely mixed, routed and distributed within the RME TotalMix mixer. Up to 9 totally independent stereo mixes can beings managed. Each output channel downmix and can be recorded without using cables to complete the inputs to the outputs. TotalMix can be completely controlled via MIDI. The DSP calculating the peaks and RMS levels without using CPU power.

Inputs / Outputs Analog
Eight analog inputs and outputs (all symmetrical with the exception of output channels 7/8), with a reference level (-10 dBV, +4 dBu, Lo / HiGain) controlled by the software, wholly in discrete component in the analog domain provide unparalleled fidelity and dynamic. Inputs 5-8 on the rear face has a sensitivity adjustable by the pilot of -10 dBV, +4 dBu, Logain respectively corresponding to a level at 0 dBFS +2 dBu, 13 dBu to +19 dBu. The same characteristics apply to outputs 1 to 6. The headphone output 7/8 offers a high volume level even on low-impedance headphones.

Preamps
The Fireface UC features 2 mic / line balanced inputs with gain digitally controlled, switchable 48V phantom power individually and Neutrik Combo XLR / Jack symmetrical. They can also be used as additional line inputs. The preamplifier stage delivers up to 65 dB of gain (adjustable in 1 dB over a range of 55 dB), offers performance EIN (equivalent input noise) exceptional even at low value with a THD + N distortion extremely low that surpasses those of many references on the market. All settings can be saved and recalled by the driver. The inputs 3 and 4 accept either a low impedance signal line (10 ohm) as inputs 5-8 on the rear panel with adjustable sensitivity (+4 dBu and Lo Gain) or a high-impedance instrument signal (470 ohm). An analog amplification of 18 dB additional available (in 0.5 dB). In fact any type of audio signal being afraid perfectly managed.

Digital input / output
An entry / ADAT optical output allows connection to effects, a mixer or additional converters. It can also be used to manage digital signals to optical SPDIF format. Obviously these 8 channels are available in addition to the analog channels. For example using a additional ADI-8 DS can design a system managing 16 input and output channels. This number drops to 12 in 96 kHz (analog and digital 8 4). The coaxial SPDIF compatible AES / EBU, can operate at 192 kHz, which still offers 8 analog and 2 digital input channels and output to the highest sample rate.
An input / output word clock (BNC) and two MIDI input / output (DIN blossomed 5-pin) round out the list and make the Fireface UC professional DAW.

* Minimum latencies are not guaranteed as they are dependent on the distinguishing characteristics of each computer and each application.
