Novastar - CVT8-5G-S

The NovaStar CVT8-5G-S enables data from an LED display system to be transmitted over long distances whilst simplifying its distribution in the vicinity of the screen. The principle is simple: a single fibre-optic link carries the data to the converter, which then distributes it across eight 5G Ethernet outputs. This architecture allows several long network links to be replaced by a single fibre link between the various points in the installation.

The CVT8-5G-S model uses single-mode fibre transmission and supports an optical data rate of up to 40 Gbit/s. The supplied optical module operates at a wavelength of 1310 nm and allows transmission over distances of up to 10 km. Connection is made using OS1 or OS2 type single-mode dual-core fibre and LC connectors. The SFP modules can also be hot-swapped, which facilitates certain maintenance or repair operations on the installation.

On the display side, the eight Ethernet ports each provide a link of up to 5 Gbit/s. They can use CAT6 cables up to 100 metres in length, thus offering some flexibility in organising the connections between the converter and the LED equipment. The CVT8-5G-S is designed to operate directly with NovaStar CX series processors using the 5G platform, notably the CX40 and CX80.

The unit also features a USB Type-B port for controlling and updating its firmware via a computer running NovaLCT. Front-panel indicators allow users to quickly check the status of the power supply, operation, optical link and the eight Ethernet connections.

Its design has been optimised to facilitate integration into an existing installation. The CVT8-5G-S can be used horizontally, suspended or rack-mounted. In particular, two units can be assembled to form a single unit occupying one 19-inch rack unit. With its 33 W power consumption and compact chassis, it provides a dedicated solution for long-distance LED data distribution.
