Novastar - Taurus T-50

The Novastar Taurus T-50 retains the functional architecture of the TB-50 whilst adopting a radically different design; it is a printed circuit board version, without a metal casing. This design provides the same playback and control functions in a lighter solution that is easier to integrate directly into equipment or a structure. However, the board must be installed in a secure location, protected from tampering and from the conditions to which a device with a traditional metal casing might be exposed.

Like the TB-50, the T-50 combines a multimedia player, a transmitter card and scaling capabilities. It can handle up to 1.3 million pixels with a maximum input resolution of 1,920 × 1,080. Content can be transferred via Ethernet or USB and then stored on the 16 GB of internal memory. The 1.8 GHz quad-core processor and 1 GB of RAM provide the processing power required for media playback.

The network connection also enables remote control. The T-50 operates via Ethernet or Wi-Fi, with AP and STA modes, whilst an optional 4G module allows use of a mobile network. From Windows, Android or iOS, ViPlex Express, ViPlex Handy and VNNOX allow you to manage the display’s content and settings without having to physically access the board.

Two RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet outputs can be configured as primary or backup ports for transmission to the LED display. The board also features an HDMI 1.4a input with an HDMI 1.4a loop-through output, as well as two inputs for light and temperature sensors. This latter feature enables environmental data to be integrated into the system’s operation.

Measuring 135 × 165 × 25 mm and weighing just 213 g, the Taurus T-50 takes up significantly less space than a processor in a chassis. Its 5 V DC power supply and lack of a chassis allow for direct integration into an existing system, provided that suitable physical protection is provided. It therefore offers an alternative to the TB-50 when size, weight and the ability to integrate the electronics directly are key considerations.
