The SH-4D incorporates four synth parts and a rhythm part, with an effects suite including five multi-effects systems, 93 master effects types, nine reverb types, as well as chorus and delay options.

For real-time manipulation, this synthesizer is equipped with a switching keyboard, step buttons, and a D-Motion motion sensor, providing intuitive interaction with sound parameters.
Its integrated sequencer can manage up to 128 patterns with 64 steps each, favoring the creation of elaborate compositions.
Connectivity-wise, the Roland SH-4D offers several options, including standard audio outputs, a headphone jack, a Mix In for integrating other audio sources, as well as MIDI IN and OUT ports.
