The sE Electronics sE7 is all about simplicity and efficiency, with a compact format and a design geared towards faithful reproduction of sources. It is designed for recording applications where precision and transparency are paramount, whether in the studio or on stage.
Its electret capsule with small 1/2-inch diaphragm captures transients quickly, which is essential for percussive instruments or string attacks. On an acoustic guitar, the sE7 reproduces detail without excessive emphasis, with good midrange clarity and a controlled top end. On drum overheads, it captures cymbals with clarity while maintaining a coherent image of the kit.
The Class A electronic circuitry and transformerless design contribute to signal stability. The microphone maintains a low noise level, making it usable in a variety of contexts, including more delicate miking of acoustic ensembles or classical instruments.
The sE7 incorporates a -20 dB attenuation pad, useful for high-noise sources such as percussion or amplifiers. The low-cut filter at 80 Hz limits undesirable low frequencies, particularly in close miking or resonant environments.
Its cardioid polar pattern makes it easy to isolate from the main source while retaining a degree of openness, making it versatile for a wide range of applications: piano, strings, brass or ensemble recording.
