Static Microphone
The UT Twin48 is a large-diaphragm tube microphone that combines the sonic signatures of the legendary 47 and 48 microphones in a single body, offering two distinct modes of operation, a choice of polar patterns and a completely high-end design for the most demanding vocal and instrument recordings.

Presentation
The United Studio Technologies UT Twin48 is a meticulous reinterpretation of two of the most iconic tube microphones in recording history. Rather than choosing between two legends, United has made the bold choice to combine the 47 and 48 architectures into a single microphone, respecting their original electronic and acoustic principles. This approach provides two distinct sonic signatures, with different polar behaviours and textures, without compromise.
The heart of the UT Twin48 is a carefully selected EF86 NOS pentode tube, the last true heir to the tubes used in the historic models. This choice has a direct influence on the sonic character of the microphone, providing a rich harmonic density, a marked presence and a natural depth difficult to reproduce with modern dual-triode designs. The amplifier stage is combined with a custom-wound UT-BV8 output transformer from the USA, true to the original Braunbuch specification, with high-nickel alloy laminations and Faraday shielding for optimum interference rejection.
The dual voicing system goes far beyond a simple polar pattern selector. In mode 47, the microphone offers a 'true' cardioid, as well as an omnidirectional mode, providing an open, detailed and very present sound. In mode 48, the active cardioid and figure-of-eight deliver a more restrained, warmer and more intimate response, particularly appreciated for vocals and sources requiring greater control of the environment. Each mode has its own sonic personality, allowing the recording to be adapted precisely to the musical context.
The UT K48 capsule, developed specifically for this model, is a solid brass capsule with a single backplate and double diaphragm, covered in 24-carat gold on 6-micron Mylar film. It is optimised for operation at 60 V and set to historical tolerances to avoid excessive harshness at the top end of the spectrum. The whole unit is powered by a fully discrete external power supply, with separate rails for filament, high voltage and bias, with high-precision regulation and advanced EMI/RFI filtering.
Supplied complete with suspension, dedicated power supply, Sommer Octave 7 seven-core cable and vintage-inspired hard case, the UT Twin48 is a reference microphone, equally at home on lead vocals, strings, brass, piano or high-end ambient pickups.
