When played, the MARTINEZ Hispania Cognac delivers the round, full-bodied tone characteristic of nylon strings, with a scale length of 650 millimetres supported by a lightweight solid-body construction. The flamed maple top and glossy Cognac Burst PU finish cast amber reflections in the light. With no frets, the ebony fingerboard allows for continuous glissandos from one note to the next, a playing style reminiscent of the oud.

The back and neck are both made from the same mahogany, shaped into a C-profile so that the thumb can rest against it for support. A two-way truss rod allows for fine adjustment of the neck curvature in line with the changing seasons. The 48-millimetre-wide bone nut gives each string enough space to vibrate without touching its neighbour, whilst the rosewood bridge transmits the energy from the strings to the soundboard.

A Der Jung M1BN preamp drives the piezo and the body pickup, each of which can be individually levelled and balanced via a master volume control and a dedicated body pickup volume control. A 3-band EQ and an effects knob shape the tone, the headphone output allows for silent practice, and the lithium battery recharges via USB-C.
