Novastar - MCTRL 700

To control an LED screen without the need for multiple control units, the Novastar MCTRL 700 combines the essential functions of signal reception and distribution in a 1U controller. A single unit can manage up to 2.3 million pixels with a maximum resolution of 1,920 × 1,200 at 60 Hz. Its design is suitable for both permanent installations and set-ups intended to be assembled and dismantled regularly.

Signal processing begins with two video inputs: a Single Link DVI interface and an HDMI 1.3 input, both capable of handling custom resolutions. Both inputs also feature a loop-through function, allowing the signal to be passed on to another unit in a daisy-chain configuration. The MCTRL 700 accepts signals up to 12 bits and supports HDCP 1.4. An audio input completes this section for applications requiring audio signal management.

Distribution to the display is handled via six RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet outputs. Each port can support up to 650,000 pixels, and port redundancy is possible. This architecture allows data to be distributed across multiple connection lines whilst maintaining centralised management of the LED display.

One of the key benefits of the MCTRL 700 is its ability to operate with multiple units. The UART IN and OUT ports allow up to 20 controllers to be cascaded, thereby expanding the system’s capacity whilst maintaining coordinated operation. The USB Type-B port, meanwhile, provides the connection to a computer for configuration and control.

Display settings can be fine-tuned at the level of each individual LED using the brightness and chrominance calibration functions offered by NovaLCT and NovaCLB. This calibration corrects discrepancies between LEDs and ensures more consistent brightness and colour reproduction across the entire screen.
