The NovaStar MCTRL R5 is an LED screen controller designed to manage displays in custom formats, particularly where the display area deviates from standard aspect ratios. It combines video source processing, data distribution to the LED modules and free image rotation to adapt the display to different screen geometries.

The NovaStar MCTRL R5 stands out above all for its ability to manage image rotation directly within an LED screen’s control system. It allows the display to be configured with a custom orientation and the content to be rotated to the desired angle when the controller is paired with compatible receiver cards, notably the A8s and A10s Plus. The screen can be configured in SmartLCT, allowing the layout of the modules to be adapted to specific shapes or orientations.

The maximum resolution is 3840 × 1080 pixels at 60 Hz, with the option to use custom resolutions within this range. The MCTRL R5 is therefore suitable for both very wide screens and configurations where the height or width requires an unusual resolution. Each video input can handle up to 4.14 million pixels. The controller features a 6G-SDI input, a Dual-Link DVI input and an HDMI 1.4 input.

Distribution to the display is via eight Gigabit Ethernet outputs, supplemented by two 10G optical outputs. The OPT1 output carries data from Ethernet ports 1 to 8, whilst OPT2 serves as the backup channel for this link. The MCTRL R5 also supports redundancy between the Ethernet ports to enhance transmission continuity.

Video processing is handled by the NovaStar G4 engine, with management designed to maintain a stable and smooth image. The controller also supports pixel-level calibration technology as well as manual brightness adjustment. The system can be controlled from a computer via Ethernet or USB, whilst the USB ports also allow multiple controllers to be daisy-chained and firmware updates to be carried out from the front panel.

Finally, the NovaStar MCTRL R5 features a Blackburst Genlock input and output to synchronise the LED display with an external source. Its 19-inch chassis, 52 mm high, fits directly into a rack-mount infrastructure. With its rotation functions, customisable resolutions and Ethernet/fibre-optic distribution, it is a controller particularly well-suited to screens whose geometry or orientation deviates from standard configurations.
