Audio Interfaces

The Fireface 802 FS is a professional audio interface designed for live and studio use, in a 19-inch enclosure. It's designed for users who don't want to compromise on sound, stability and ultra-low latency operation, and who aspire to an unrivalled set of professional features. 60 audio channels, high-end preamps, reference converters, a comprehensive effects section and operation at up to 192 kHz are the basis for many other features. Once again, a landmark interface from RME, including the best of the best and then some.

Ultra-low latency operation with USB 2 RME technology, combined with the legendary stability and maintenance of the RME driver. SteadyClock FS jitter suppression, individually switchable reference levels for all inputs and outputs, full standalone functionality and identical operation on Windows PC and Mac complete the package.

The Fireface 802 FS is based on a newly developed analogue and digital board. While the analogue board offers, for example, DC-coupled analogue outputs and new AD and DA converters, the digital board also provides exciting new features thanks to updated high-tech components.

The front panel of the Fireface 802 FS offers four high-performance XLR/TRS combo inputs for microphone, instrument and line signals and two stereo headphone sockets with +17dBu output level, to provide high volumes even with high-impedance headphones.

The rear panel reveals the full connectivity of the Fireface 802 FS. In addition to MIDI and Word Clock inputs/outputs, two ADAT optical inputs/outputs, an AES/EBU input/output and eight balanced analogue inputs and outputs with line level are available. With the new multi-mode, the two ADAT I/Os can be used as separate optical SPDIF inputs and outputs in addition to the AES I/O. Users will also find a USB A port for direct connection to the optional USB ARC.

Equipped with the latest low-latency A/D and D/A conversion chips, all I/Os operate at up to 192kHz and achieve high dynamic range in playback, even the two headphone outputs. Their high-power technology delivers high volume, whether high or low impedance headphones are used. Thanks to its effective jitter reduction, RME's superior SteadyClock FS guarantees state-of-the-art AD/DA conversion, even when synchronised with an external clock.

Each input and output is individually switchable to these common professional studio levels: -10 dBV, +4 dBu, HiGain (equivalent to +2 dBV, +13 dBu and +19 dBu for full digital scale). All outputs can be used for direct ASIO monitoring (ADM).

The 802 FS features four high-transparency preamps, also with low-latency converters. The mic and instrument preamps of the 802 FS use classic OctaMic II technology, a top-of-the-range preamp for supreme sonic demands and critical applications, such as professional recording of classical concerts.
The preamp's symmetrical design impresses with extremely low distortion, excellent signal-to-noise ratio and perfect linear frequency response. A high-end solution for transmitting and amplifying any truly unaltered audio input, whether it's typical high-level stage or studio signals, low-level and high-impedance instruments, or dynamic, condenser and ribbon microphones.

The four front inputs use balanced XLR/TS combo sockets and function alternately as Hi-Z inputs. Connect up to four guitars or other instruments directly, no additional equipment required.

The Fireface 802 FS follows the RME tradition of providing flexible and expandable audio systems. Additional preamplifiers or analogue inputs are easily added via the dual ADAT optical I/Os at the rear.

Like previous RME products, the Fireface 802 FS combines excellent analogue circuit design with the latest digital conversion technology. All TRS and XLR balanced inputs/outputs and the two headphone outputs offer exceptionally low levels of noise and distortion.
In the RME tradition, converters and preamps don't produce 'sound', they don't add or remove anything from the source signal, they simply capture it as it is.

It can be set up and configured directly via iPad, MIDI remote control and USB ARC. In addition, there are 6 memory locations where the current configuration can be permanently stored.
In this way, the 802 FS works independently of a computer! In stand-alone mode, it can be transformed into different devices at the touch of a button.

ICC - Intelligent clock control:
Not only displays each clock state, but also retains the last valid input sample rate in the event of external source failure.
Other renowned RME technologies such as SyncCheck provide rapid detection of clock problems.

Since 2001, TotalMix has added unlimited routing and mixing to RME's audio interfaces.
Its unique ability to create as many independent submixes as there are output channels available has made it the most flexible and powerful mixer in its class.

RME Audio interfaces not only provide you with a professional digital audio interface, but also a freely available software tool: DigiCheck, for measuring, testing, metering and analysing digital audio streams.

Excellent performance in all clock modes and high-quality analogue conversion to hear your mix as it is, with the lowest jitter and highest jitter immunity.

Use your RME audio interface on Mac and PC with reliable, stable and regularly updated drivers.
RME Audio develops its own interface kernel, not relying on third parties for upgrades, modifications or bug fixes, so you can use the latest operating systems without interruption or delay.
